The Pixel 9’s New Weather App Is Like Dark Sky for Android, and you can try it right now.

Tons of Meteorological Info at Your Fingertips

The Google Pixel 9 series is set to launch next week, and while leaks about its design and specs have already made the rounds, there’s exciting news about a newly upgraded weather app that will come with it. Even better, you can try this app out right now.

As reported by Android Authority, the enhanced Weather app is currently available for sideloading from APKMirror. It’s designed to work on devices running Android 14 or later. However, since this isn’t the final version of the app, you might encounter some bugs and crashes. When it officially launches, it may be exclusive to Pixel phones.

How to Get the New Weather App

If you’re unfamiliar with sideloading, it’s a process of installing apps from sources outside the Google Play Store. Always proceed with caution and ensure you’re using trusted sources, as sideloading apps is done at your own risk.

To install the app, open the APKMirror link in Chrome on your Android device, navigate to the download link (avoiding any misleading ads with “download” on them), and follow the prompts through the security warnings. You might also need to adjust Chrome’s settings to allow installs from unknown sources.

Take the Weather With You

Based on earlier screenshots, the new Weather app packs a wealth of information into a sleek, user-friendly interface, adhering to Android’s Material You design guidelines. You’ll find all the essentials here, including temperature readings, precipitation levels, wind speed, UV index, sunset and sunrise times, and visibility metrics.

It appears that the Weather app will also be able to deliver rain forecasts and warnings directly to your phone, ahead of time – a feature that will resonate with those who miss the Dark Sky app after Apple acquired it.

What’s Next?

According to seasoned tipsters AssembleDebug and Dylan Roussel, we can expect AI-powered weather summaries and detailed weather maps in the future. Given Google’s recent trends, it would be surprising if the app didn’t include some form of artificial intelligence.

All of this will likely be unveiled next Tuesday, August 13, when Google is expected to reveal the Pixel 9 models officially. There’s also speculation that Android 15 might be announced, and the Google Pixel Watch 3 could make an appearance as well.

Stay tuned – it looks like there’s a lot to be excited about!
