The next iPhone SE, expected to debut at the beginning of 2025, is rumored to come with the capability to run Apple’s on-device AI, Apple Intelligence. While the iPhone SE has traditionally been known for providing an affordable entry into the world of Apple phones, it has never compromised on quality.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to maintain its affordability while being powerful enough to support Apple Intelligence. This means that even though it will be the cheapest iPhone in the lineup, it will not compromise on performance when it comes to running AI-related tasks.
This news is significant because, until now, only flagship iPhones like the iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, and 15 Pro Max could run Apple Intelligence due to their high-performance hardware. However, if the rumors are true, the new iPhone SE 4 will join the ranks of these powerful devices.
In addition to the AI capabilities, rumors also indicate that the iPhone SE 4 may resemble the iPhone 14 in design, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED display that covers the entire screen. While it is uncertain how important Apple Intelligence will be for average users, having a budget-friendly iPhone with the performance capabilities needed for AI tasks is surely an attractive proposition.
It’s worth noting that the current 2022 iPhone SE was launched at a price of $429 / £419 / AU$719, and if the rumors about the iPhone SE 4 are accurate, there may be a slight increase in its price. However, even with a potential price increase to around $529 / £499 / AU$900, the iPhone SE 4 would still be significantly cheaper than the next nearest AI-compatible handset, the iPhone 15 Pro, which is currently priced at $999 / £999 / AU$1,849.
Suppose the next iPhone SE delivers on its rumored features, maintaining its affordability while being as powerful as the iPhone 15 Pro. In that case, it will certainly be a substantial upgrade to the SE line of phones and a welcome addition for those seeking a budget-friendly yet high-performance iPhone.
