Modern PSP with a Modern Screen
The gaming handheld market is diversifying, catering to various preferences. Some gamers seek high-fidelity gaming with top-notch resolution and frame rates, while others, the retro enthusiasts, find joy in classic titles enhanced by modern tech like vibrant, colorful screens. Then there are the emulation aficionados and those with a penchant for familiar designs.

AYN appears to be targeting the latter, unveiling a new system that tips the scales at a mere 320 grams. This positions it as a lighter alternative to the AYANEO Pocket S, which is 31% heavier at 420 grams. While its weight is noteworthy, the spotlight shines on the Mini-LED display—a first for gaming handhelds. AYN promises a display that dazzles with a peak brightness of 1,100 nits, a remarkable contrast ratio, and 155% sRGB color gamut coverage.
Interestingly, AYN’s ‘320g’ system will eschew Windows in favor of either Android or another Unix-based operating system. The processor details remain under wraps, suggesting that the device may not chase after raw performance but rather an optimal balance suitable for its design.
Stay tuned for more updates, as AYN is set to reveal further details on their official Discord channel.
