Nvidia GTX Series Discontinued After 19 Years
In a significant development, Nvidia has reportedly discontinued the production of its GeForce GTX graphics cards. The GTX series, which has been a mainstay in the GPU market for nearly 19 years, is expected to be phased out in the coming months.
New Entry-Level GPUs
As the GTX series bows out, Nvidia is set to introduce new entry-level GPU offerings. These include the RTX 3050 (6GB) for desktops and the RTX 2050, based on the Ampere architecture, for laptops.
The Legacy of GTX
Over the years, the GTX series has seen several successful graphics cards. Among them, the GTX 1080 Ti stands out as one of the most powerful and best-received releases. The last new GTX lineup, known as the GTX 16 series, was intended for a lower price segment of the market. It included models like the GTX 1660 Super, which offered performance similar to the GTX 1660 Ti.
The Future of Nvidia GPUs
With the discontinuation of the GTX series, Nvidia is shifting its focus to the RTX series. The company first introduced the RTX 20 Series graphics cards in late 2023, with the RTX 2080 offering enhanced gaming experiences through features like ray tracing. Nvidia has since introduced several features, such as DLSS, RTX Video HDR, Chat with RTX, and ray reconstruction, which leverage the architectural innovations of the GeForce RTX graphics cards.
Phasing Out the GTX Series
The GTX series will gradually be phased out from the market. Consumers purchasing a new laptop or desktop PC are advised to opt for GPUs based on new-generation architecture rather than the outdated GTX series. The remaining inventory of GTX series GPUs is estimated to be depleted in the next 1-3 months.

With the GTX series now discontinued, the entry-level barrier for Nvidia-based PCs is expected to rise.
